Working with Dr. Daniels is an awesome experience!

Dr. Daniels worked with our organization (ETOM) to tailor a workshop series that perfectly fit the needs of our membership and was accommodating to our schedule. She is approachable, open, and incredibly knowledgeable on a wide range of topics related to teaching and learning. From our initial planning meetings to the final workshop she was detailed, organized and (incredibly) friendly! She is a master at weaving technology, pedagogy, and the human element!

Dr. Daniels is empathetic to the needs of her audience and understanding of their wants! The feedback from our membership on Dr. Daniels was high level and encouraging of more opportunities! Our workshop was centered around building community in virtual learning environments. The workshops were a perfect blend of new ideas and facilitation from Dr. Daniels along with plenty of collaboration opportunities! There was a lot of buzz from attendees about how excited they were to start using the ideas Dr. Daniels laid out for them. We look forward to working with Dr. Daniels for future events and workshops!

  • Keynote at the Teaching and Learning Conference

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Daniels when she served as the keynote speaker at DePaul’s annual teaching and learning conference in 2021. Her presentation, “Pedagogies of Care: Promoting equity, wellness, and integrity in the college classroom,” was incredibly well received. One attendee noted, “This is one of the most powerful, interesting and inspiring keynoters I've seen in over 10 years of teaching and learning conference attendance.”

Dr. Daniels’ presentation addressed key learning challenges for students with an emphasis on trauma-informed teaching and practical strategies to improve equity and access. She provided concrete takeaways that showed how we can teach with care and compassion while still holding students to high standards. She also modeled best practices for learner engagement by providing several opportunities for audience participation—no small feat considering all the ground she had to cover in a short, one-hour webinar with 115 attendees.

Before the conference, Dr. Daniels took the time to meet with both our Center for Teaching and Learning staff and a group of students to better understand our needs. She even created a survey to gather insights from DePaul students on their learning experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic and integrated several students’ comments into her presentation.

Dr. Daniels truly went above and beyond as a guest speaker and I know our team would welcome any opportunity to collaborate with her again. I wholeheartedly recommend her as a speaker and consultant for anyone looking to improve teaching and student support at their institution or organization.

  • Workshop at the Racial Equity Institute

Dr. Daniels facilitated a workshop for our faculty development program focused on racial equity in STEM in 2021 and 2022. Her workshop addressed how instructor identity influences the experiences of students in the classroom. Dr. Daniels met with us in advance and was sensitive to the needs of the program and our participants. Her workshop was polished and inspiring and modeled teaching practices that faculty could incorporate into their own classes in order to create more inclusive spaces. We highly recommend Dr. Daniels and would welcome more opportunities to work with her.

    Quotes from our focus group:

I loved the name history exercise, and the thought of doing that with students at the beginning of a class to get them to identify as an individual and as a community.

I liked Taz’s presentation. It was really well polished.

I liked the idea of starting every course with every student on a positive note.

Tazin Daniels was very inspiring, practical, and positive. She was a great speaker and really engaged us.
